Context Clues are the hints the author gives you in the story.

Context Clues can help you find:

information about the meaning of a word
If you are not sure what a word means, read before and after the word.  Sometimes the author states the meaning of the word before or after it is used in a story.

An enormous, huge, elephant walked through the zoo. (HINT: enormous means huge)

The positive comments on John's paper told him that he did a good job. (HINT: positive means good)
The infant cried like a baby. (HINT: infant means baby)
